Responding to Rishi Sunak’s plan to tackle illegal immigration, Sir Keir Starmer said “time and time again this government has not provided serious solutions” and accused Mr Sunak of putting forward an “unworkable gimmick”.

He called on the prime minister to clear the immigration backlog of 150,000 cases by the end of next year.
