A major rescue is under way after a boat with dozens of migrants onboard capsized in the English Channel, according to French media.
The French coastguard said more than 50 people were being rescued and were in need of medical treatment, Reuters reported.
Officials have also said a further 10 people were in critical condition after the boat got into difficulty off the coast of Le Portel, around 28 miles (45km) southwest of Calais.
France 3 has quoted the town’s mayor Olivier Barbarin – who has spoken to rescue teams – as saying “around 10 people in cardio-respiratory arrest”.
The news organisation had reported “at least 100 migrants” were on board “following the sinking of a boat” around 11.30am (10.30am UK time).
Their reporters have also spotted several white tarpaulins on the quay.
According to France 3 some people have been rescued – including by air – and dropped off at the neighbouring port of Boulogne-sur-Mer.
No details have been given about how many have been recovered from the water.
